Being one of the fastest growing communities in the nation means there will be a lot more of a lot of things. Solid waste, of course, is one of them. In fact, the amount of solid waste in Rutherford County grew by 45% during the past 15 years.
As a result, Middle Point landfill will reach capacity no later than 2026, maybe earlier. Because the people of Rutherford County have been using it for free, they can expect costs to rise significantly when it closes.
In an effort to control costs, an advisory committee is working to find the best options. They are meeting at 6 p.m. Monday evening in the Council Chambers at Murfreesboro City Hall. Come and be a part of the solution!
